Ardias, Captain of the Ultramarines 3rd Company. My best intentions are to make sure the world knows that the Ultramarines, despite the efforts of young men who know not what they do when they dip their Space Marines head-first into Ultramarines Blue...

This is a simple assembly using the parts from the Space Marine Commander boxed set, along with the head from the plastic Devestator Sergeant and the chestplate for the Sergeant out of the Tactical Squad set. For once, there's acutally no drybrushing on the whole model. That's quite an achievement for me.

He's a gaming figure, so I didn't bother much where his eyes were concerned. Being shocked at how he looks a little too similar to Clint Eastwood for it to be an accident, he got grey hair. So sue me. I sprayed him with a light dusting of satin Purity Seal and he came out pretty nice, I might start doing that with all my Marines.

So remember. Next time you see a kid with an 'Ultramarine' army and you find your internal organs worming into ash? Remind yourself that there of those of us with faith and skill.

Wow! This guy is fantastic! You did a wonderful job painting this commander. Awesome shading and highlighting~

Thanks a lot. :) I'm pretty pleased with how this came out. I'm also quite proud of how the Purity Seal gave him an overall powdery look to his armour - not a concious effort that one, so I can't take the credit there. ;)

you stirred disturbing memories of kids and dipping models to paint them...

Having worked for GW a few years back... I actually witnessed a kid painting his models with a poster paint pot and poster paintbrushes... no 00000 brush for him... you measured it in inches... :|

anyway... enough ranting for now...

models looks nice. I'm not sure about the sword thou... I always figured they crackled electric blue... I guess it's switched off... lol

Looking for a compliment here is like looking for a girlfriend in a graveyard. You know you probably won't like what you dig up, but you'll take it anyway.

I went for a more subtle blue ink shade around the power lines of the sword; it doesn't show particularly well in the picture, as it blurs a little being so close. Those bright blue swords? Look like something out of a Joe Mad comic. ;)

I didn't think it was possible to paint that good! INSANE!!!

How long have you been painting when you manage something like this?

ATI ROX!!!!!!!!!
:icondocwholigan:
I've been painting now for about twelve years. :) To be honest, it's only been in the last two years since starting work at Games Workshop that my painting skill has really improved. It's been a couple of years of constant experimentation and really hard work raising my standards from what I was happy with at the time.

I can even remember the very first model I painted, all those years ago. A Catachan plasma gunner, and I thought it'd be a brilliant idea to give him a spotted bandanna. :XD:
